On his return from the USA in the 1950’s Mayo native Michael (Mike) Doherty purchased the existing farm in Quarryfield along with his wife Mary. Over the proceeding decades the farm expended and developed into a successful dairy business. Since the early 2000’s the farm, now owned by Mike’s son Gerald and his wife Marie, has predominantly consisted of sheep and horses.
In Quarryfield the day to day running of the farm is taken care of by Gerald and his daughter Kelly, who also runs an English Language business called Sligo Language alongside the farm activities. Gerald’s oldest son Michael is heavily involved in the decision making process of Quarryfield’s sport horse breeding programme.
Our current broodmares have been carefully selected from top performance families in Ireland and continental Europe with a focus on breeding showjumpers for international sport.
